26.06.2008 CAPITAL HAS STRONGEST ECONOMY
Edinburgh has the strongest economy in the UK, topping even London, according to a new report. The city lags behind Glasgow in percentage growth, but it is the UK's strongest economy with £28,432 per capita per year.
The statistcs come from a report by chartered accountants, Campbell Dallas, and experts believe it is down to the city's growing banking and insurance sectors and the Scottish Government boosting the public sector.
The report came as the latest Lloyds TSB Scotland Business Monitor suggested the Scottish economy was continuing to grow.
The latest edition, covering the three months ending May 31, 2008, shows 39 per cent of firms surveyed reported an increase in turnover, 33 per cent reported static turnover and 28 per cent reported a decrease.
