18.07.2008 CAMPBELL DALLAS CAVEMEN RAISE CASH FOR CHARITY
Campbell Dallas has raised £2,000 for children with cerebral palsy by racing dragon boats across Loch Lomond.
In June, 14 advisers, accountants and administrative support staff from the firm dressed up as cavemen to race traditional Chinese longboats against teams of soldiers, sailors and hotel workers in aid of the Bobath charity.
Bobath provides treatment for Scottish children with cerebral palsy and organises an annual dragon boat fund raiser, which this year was held at Balloch Castle Country Park.
'Obviously, it's a highly emotive charity and we do like to put things back into the community,' said adviser Steven Haldane.
'Everyone seems to enjoy it and it gets a good profile.'
The firm faced 21 other teams eager to swipe the coveted trophy. Teams raced head to head, banging drums and were led by professional skippers.
Last year, the Campbell Dallas team dressed up as Indian chiefs but for this year's festivities it was felt that cavemen outfits would provide the manoeuvrability and comfort needed to win.
During the race, the wind was not on their side though and the Campbell Dallas cavemen did not make it into the final, said Haldane.
Campbell Dallas has strong ties with Bobath and takes part in the event every year. Its group chairman used to be a chairman of Bobath.
