MPs' expenses are the hottest political potato in years, but, suggests Bruce Wilson, there's a very simple solution - what's good for us should be good for them.

There was a furore a few years ago when the population realised that the monarchy paid no tax whatsoever and changes were made to ensure that basic rate tax was paid, regardless of the level of income tax the monarch would pay as a "normal" taxpayer.

The same lawgivers (Parliament) continue to enshrine favourable tax rules for themselves that ordinary taxpayers don't benefit from. It is little wonder, therefore, that they find themselves under a spotlight they would rather not be under.
